When Lucy tells him to go out and bag an alumminum tree, he takes Linus along with him. What Charlie Brown ultimately gets is a petite, sickly looking tree, which is mercurial loosing its needles. When he returns, he finds the gang dancing to un-Christmas like music, instead of rehearsing their lines. In disgust and humiliation he flees, taking the tree with him. And when he comes upon Snoopy’s dog house, all decked out in Christmas lights, not to celebrate the joyous holiday, but to secure money in a contest, Charlie Brown has had enough, and almost loses all faith in Christmas.

Linus saves the day, somehow able to bring the tree aid to life, and construct it sight noteworthy healthier and stronger. But it is when he explains the meaning of Christmas that the “gang” gets the point of Christmas, and what Charlie Brown was trying to do.

“A Charlie Brown Christmas” ends with newfound meaning for Christmas, hopefully not soon forgotten by either the Peanuts Gang, or, more importantly … us.

I realize that I am writing this several weeks after Christmas, and this is a Christmas DVD, but this is the first year that I missed watching “A Charlie Brown Christmas” on television, so I rented the DVD. Ever since I was a runt boy, this has been my celebrated Christmas special, and one that I always looked forward to watching every year. I grew up reading the Peanuts funny strips and I grew up watching the Peanuts Christmas special.

Charlie Brown is discouraged. He can’t seem to salvage himself into the Christmas spirit. He doesn’t like the commercialism of Christmas and scarcely knows the upright meaning of Christmas. Lucy selects Charlie Brown to be the director of their Christmas play and he decides to win a Christmas tree for the production. The other kids instruct him to derive a “nice intellectual aluminum tree, maybe a pink one”, but Charlie Brown and Linus bring wait on a dark looking valid tree. Charlie Brown is almost laughed out of the auditorium, but when he asks if anyone knows what Christmas is all about, Linus has the respond. Linus recites a passage from the Bible telling of the birth of Jesus. Charlie Brown is cheered and leaves with the tree. He tries to decorate the shrimp tree, but even that is ruined. Linus and the gang follow leisurely, fix up the tree, and at the ruin, they prove the apt spirit of Christmas.

It is a sweet small Christmas special, filled with memorable moments that will always effect me smile. The one thing that amazes me is that Charles Schulz was able to include Linus’s speech come the raze about the birth of Jesus. I don’t imagine that would have been able to be included today, but I mediate the special is all the stronger for it. I have a hard time imagining that any original Christmas note will ever fill as special a dwelling in my heart as “A Charlie Brown Christmas”.

This DVD also includes “It’s Christmastime Again, Charlie Brown” (1992) . This Christmas feature is lacking the overall charm and emotion of the older special, but it has a lot more humor. It is also different from the first Christmas special in that this one is more a series of vignettes (perhaps based on Schulz’s funny strips) than a complete chronicle. There are sequences with Charlie Brown trying to sell Christmas wreaths before Thanksgiving, and of Sally rehearsing for a Christmas play. Sally’s sole line is “Hark!”, though I consider she missed the rest of her lines where the herald angels screech. It is a cute cartoon, but ultimately it does not quite live up to “A Charlie Brown Christmas”, but it my mind, nothing can live up to that one.

People compare this film to 101 Dalmations. This is Disney’s “cat” movie, they say. You can’t compare them; they’re too similiar somehow.

Yes, Cruella is scary compared to the bumbling butler Edgar. There is a sense of jeopardy but Dalmations is worthy stronger in that sense.

Both films were made using the 1960’s Xerox procedure where the resulting animation is more sketchy looking and more stop to the modern animator’s drawings.

The Aristocats is more of a musical, definitely. A few forgettable songs, but also the charming and infectious tune “Everybody Wants to Be a Cat”. That is the tune I contemplate of when I remember the adventures of Duchess and Thomas and the kittens. (101 Dalmations had the puny “Cruella De VIl” song, but that’s it.)

Overall this is a fun vehicle but it is not a classic such as Peter Pan, Cinderella, or Lady and the Tramp. It has a nice, relaxing skedaddle and is probably most intriguing to youngsters. The inform talent, as ever with Disney cartoon features, is immense. Eva Gabor’s Duchess is warm and maternal while Phil Harris as Thomas O’Malley is macho yet sweet (and sounds like a lifelong diehard smoker) . He also lent his vocal prowess to The Jungle Book when he played Baloo the fill.

This special edition for 2008 has some cute extras. But unless you’re a total stickler for aspect ratios or you accept every version they release, the previous edition should suffice. It was gorgeous, with a obvious and vivid picture/sound presentation.

I’m so gratified that Disney made this film. I noteworthy win the more innocent Disney movies of the past. Movies like Lady and the Tramp and The Aristocats are truly fun, wholesome entertainment. Don’t regain me started on the original Disney films which are plot too fervent in pushing hit pop songs and attracting adults with more action, violence, and suggestive dialogue. I know things can’t quit the same so I’m gratified we have this film from a more innocent era. I particularly like the fact that the pacing is relaxed and the villain is not very scary. I’m always looking for what I call “still” movies and videos for my 2 and a half year weak. I don’t want him seeing shocking or fast-paced images. Lady and the Tramp and Emmet Otter’s Jug Band Christmas are other tremendous shows for young viewers. Unlike the sterile environment of the Teletubbies, these movies are paunchy of fabulous images and spicy music. I come by the backdrop drawings extremely consuming and stylized. I also like the setting of the film (France) as opposed to the mainly exotic locations lately of Disney films.

Great alarm system
These new alarm systems have so many features, I dont know where to start. I got this for my 2006 Silverado Z71 CCSB LBZ, I have had remote start systems since I worked in a shop part time back in 2003 and cant go without it a week. I bought this system for my newer truck to replace the 2000 Z71 ECSB I just wish the remote were a little smaller, it is nearly the size of a cellphone. Install is straightforward, when the unit is working correctly, the first one I received was shorted across the flex relay, and Amazon sent a replacement with one day shipping quickly, even included a shipping label for return shipping for free. Amazon is great.

I Soliti Ignoti- I absolutely like this movie. It is one expansive italian comedy with a sparkling cast at its best in portraying the simplistic and realistic roles of petty criminals. Because of the nature of the characters and their ridiculous behaviour in the proceedings of their arrangement to catch a pawnshop, the viewers won’t be able to refrain from laughter and savor this gang’s hopeless adventure. For anyone who loves this movie as grand as I do, I recommend to recognize its sequel made a year later by Nanni Loy: “Audace Colpo dei Soliti Ignoti”, with only the absence of Mastroianni but the addition of Nino Manfredi- Certain it’s not as substantial as the first, but having liked these characters so worthy it is natural that one would want to ogle them succor in action with yet another “scientifically” schemed project along with all their mishaps as usual…and of course, a itsy-bitsy more of the unfolding romance of the couple portrayed by Claudia Cardinale and Renato Salvatori. Unfortunately this movie will be hard to gather, and it is without subtitles. (Do not confuse this with a third sequel made 20 yrs later which, by the procedure, I do not recommend at all.) For anyone who hasn’t seen Broad Deal On Madonna St, please do perceive it.

This Italian parody of Jules Dassin’s *Rififi* turns out to be, after all is said and done, a better movie. Interestingly, it finally seems more modern than Dassin’s crime movie, despite its certain mocking of Italian Neo-Realist pretensions AND the hard-bitten *Rififi* (itself a derivation of 1940’s American film noirs) . *Big Deal on Madonna Street* basically justifies director Mario Monicelli’s career . . . at least in my eyes, for I’ve never considerable cared for most of his movies. His films have a very narrow interest, meaning, you really have to be Italian to “pick up” them. In *Big Deal*, Monicelli goes for something more universal with this spoof of the massively infuential French noir, and attains sundry brilliancies. Firstly, the characters are unforgettably individualized, with tics and situations that often turn the gangster archetype on its head. Marcello Mastroianni, for instance, is babysitting his infant while his WIFE serves a short term in jail for smuggling! And somehow the director manages to mock the post-War Italian cinema’s unblinking belief (a opinion which was monotonously repeated, starting with Rosselini’s *Open City*) of the desperate scrape of the country’s working-class while AT THE SAME TIME carrying on most poignantly that tradition. For a comedy, there’s a heck of a lot of dirty jails, dirty streets, and dirty people. The thought of a large robbery — a one-time “tall catch” — is natural on these streets. The overall tone is light, but the grim realities are not hidden. This is not a “hilarious” comedy . . . at least until we earn to the Vast Caper, which is a smorgasbord of funny ineptness. I won’t slay it by describing it; search for it for yourself. By the intention, this movie was itself re-made (more or less) twice: Louis Malle tried to Americanize it in his *Crackers* (don’t bother), and Woody Allen lightly essayed it unbiased recently with his *Small-time Crooks*. Having praised *Big Deal on Madonna Street*, I will add the caveat that a prior knowledge of *Rififi* and Italian Neo-Realist cinema will enhance your enjoyment of the film. [I’m sorry to characterize that Criterion’s DVD is, simply set, outrageous. No features but a trailer, and the subtitles are poorly done, flashing on and off the cloak like subliminal messages. As this is a later release (#113, I consider), there are no excuses for the shoddiness. It’s ravishing to examine excellence from Criterion, particularly because their products are so expensive. Oh well.]

I’m a Grade 12 student who recently got support into watching the Toaster movies because I remember the “Bold Itsy-bitsy Toaster” from when I was cramped. I noticed on the aid of the video box, the credits said “Based on the novella by Thomas M. Disch”.

So what did this Grade 12 student do? I went to the library and signed out the two books that correspond to the first two movies (there is no third book for “Toaster to the Rescue”) .

The books are very different from the movies, and in watching “Goes to Mars” I realized that a lot of aspects would be hard to understand if you haven’t read the book, which is quite supplementary to the dwelling in the movie. There is no baby in the book (the appliances, in the first book, destroy up with a retired ballerina instead of the Master they had been looking for) and Einstein’s hearing back actually helps Radio to occupy up signals from the Wonderluxe appliances on Mars which say them that they understanding to end Earth. The reason for going to Mars is essentially the same as in the movie. And the Christmas angel was really sent to Mars with the Wonderluxe appls. (NOT the Viking 1) as a free gift for buying them (when they were on Earth) . Her role stays the same in the movie.

As for the quality of this movie, I was expecting it to be really abominable, but I loved it. The weakest point was the soundtrack …the words (apart from the campaigning song between Toaster and the Supreme Commander) were inane and the music was rather uninspired (again, except for the campainging song) . I was jubilant that the characters themselves were almost unchanged (despite positive casting changes to the voices of Blanky and Radio) but this time, they had an annoying tendancy to all bellow at once, which they would have never done in the first movie.

I give it 4 stars for the animation (which could have been a pains considering it was straight to video), the message (basically the “valorous” thing we got the first time around with Toaster) and how well it stuck to the location of Disch’s novella. Most of all, I loved seeing Toaster and his friends in another adventure after having seen the first movie so many times in my life.

I’ve never seen so many applicances catch around so often. Perhaps NASA should hire the Toaster and his pals to bag them to Mars! This is an spicy installment but the spot is a bit confusing for some exiguous children. There are very few microscopic ones who know who Albert Einstein is, worthy less the theory of relativity (or the unified theory) . There’s also few children who know what hearing aids are for. I’d suggest watching this movie with your kids to justify (to their comprehension) the confusing bits of the myth.

The second film to be produced in this trilogy (although the last in it), Mars is the second best. The quick-witted backgrounds, songs and adventure will steal your child’s attention. It also provides a expansive dialog about values, misunderstandings and prejudice. It’s also a racy movie. It’s a pity that Disney didn’t invest a bit more money in this sequel (it was actually done outside of Disney if I’m not improper and picked up by the company) . The animation could have been a bit smoother but your kids probably won’t perceive.

The songs are exquisite and the difficulties the characters have provide pleasant examples of conflict resolution for kids. The space is less black than the first film but, again, may require a bit of explaining.

Nice Unit - Could be Better
We use the Garmin Astro for K9 SAR. We put it on the dogs & record the areas they searched. The unit is nice, but frustrating to operate. It is advertised as being like the Garmin 60C series, but the operating system (menu screens) are very different and have much less functionality than the 60C’s. I would have wanted to carry just one unit, but alas, I carry both because the screen functionalty on the Astro does not have features the 60CS has. The screen sequence for starting & stopping recording the dog tracks is very cumbersome and confusing. The harness that comes with the unit is worthless - dangerous really. It is a velcro ‘vest’ that is supposed to fit snugly around the dog’s chest. It has to fit snuggly the way its designed in order for it to stay on the dog . . . but that snugness also causes the dog to not be able to breathe properly - for a working dog - that could cause major medical emergency. All of us who have them have designed some other attachment method to the dog’s regular working harness. Garmin could save some money by removing the harness fromt the package & putting in a simple/better way to attach it to another harness. This all sounds bad . . . the unit works pretty well actually, but these pesky details cause it to be used less often that I would like.

This could be a result of the clean-up process but I’m not certain. Either diagram, it’s slightly distracting but by no means a deal breaker. (EDIT: This was an bid I experienced on the first disc and not later ones; not distinct if it was with the disc or my TV’s brightness setting. Either plan, not a ample pickle.) What I believe of the sound:

Ok, if you know anything about Bebop, it’s that there is a stout soundtrack. Snappily jazz with the opening credits and sunless blues penetrate this series.
